Our U12 girls hosted Cloughjordon today in Ballinree. Weather conditions were good although the ground was soft!
Our ever improving girls took command of this game early on with a fine finish from Callie Mitchell. A few minutes later, Elsa Fitzgerald hit a boomer from 30 yards that hit the top of the net in what will surely be the goal of the season!!!
At half time, we were 2 up and doing well all over the pitch. The second half was tighter, however, with Cloughjordon pressing hard on us. We scored a third goal, and it was Fionualla Hayes who was on the end of it to strike the ball home!! Cloughjordon got one back and this goal was a brilliant solo effort from their star player Pippa who came from her own half with the ball, took on everyone in her way and slotted the ball neatly past our keeper Katie Hartnett. It was now 3-1, and Cloughjordon was causing us problems. Our girls held firm and kept them out, though! It finished 3-1 to Ballymackey, so it's another much needed win under our belts!
In goals was Katie, who was very solid as usual. Our backs were all very solid today and comprised of Aisling Ryan, Abbie Hogan, Lily Dunne, Eva Bailey, and Ciara Grimes. Our midfield girls were controlling things for long spells and were made up of Maeve Quinn, Elsa Fitzgerald, Holly Fitzpatrick, and Kate England. We'd Caoimhe Manley, Callie Mitchell, Leanne Bergin, and Fionualla Hayes up front at different stages, and all gave a great account towards our win.
Our stand-out player today was Lily Dunne, who closed down each attack that came her way!
